O4D - thinking out loud

Location, location

This week started with some location recon for some shots I’m planning to integrate into the showreel/viral video. This was an education in itself, as it turns out those framed shots you had in mind can be ruined by changes in the season and greenery on trees and just as frequently the vagaries of human memory. I’ll have to go back to the drawing board and scout some more locations.

The training is progressing well. This week I’ve mainly been modelling and animating in Maya and dabbling in the Cinema 4D integration with After Effects for motion graphics. I’ve been impressed with the MoGraph toolset in Cinema 4D, as well as its general usability. Maya is a bit weak in that area, although 2015 seems to be heading in the right direction. I can see why Cinema 4D has a strong customer base as it is a good 80% solution.

I’m hoping the new mirror ball will arrive next week so I can start shooting some HDRI environments. Well, depending on the weather!
