Adios Mental Ray

... well, at least for this week, which has mostly been about V-Ray.

Hello V-Ray

V-Ray has quite a following, and there seem to be a lot of folk who rate it over Mental Ray. So it was interesting to get some hands on experience with it for comparison.

Overall, I was impressed. It's not that it does anything that Mental Ray can't. It's just that the usability feels a lot better. You feel like you are fighting it less to get the same end result.

Light Probe-tastic!

This week I also managed to give the new light probe a trial run out. I was pretty pleased with the results.

The image below is the rear side of the probe. I was impressed with the limited distortion. It always seems counterintuitive that you can capture 360 degrees from an image of a single side of a sphere.
