Silent running
19 December 2014 - Comments
It's been a productive week on the run-up to Crimbo, despite battling seasonal colds/manflu. I thought I'd sneak in another quick update, as after that it will probably be 'silent running' over the Christmas period.
Micro-projects
Last week I shared some of the mistakes I made in approaching my showreel projects. Since then I have been looking to rectify those mistakes by working on a series of micro-projects that will demonstrate core CG competencies until the more involved projects come through down the line.
As such, the micro-projects won't be visually breathtaking. However, they should be effective in demonstrating my grasp of key CG techniques.
The great thing about these projects is that I should be able to complete them fairly quickly. So far this has proved to be the case, as I've already got two projects almost complete.
VFX: Burning half-track
In addition to the micro-projects, I've also been continuining work on a VFX shot that involves adding fire and explosion FX onto some footage of a WWII half-track.
I have made a good start by match-moving the footage and building out some proxy geometry for the half-track cabin. Now I'm working on the cabin fire sim and intend to add some explosions later. It is one of those projects that could creep in scope, so I may release a few different versions of it over time. However, at the moment there are other priorities, so we'll have to see how much time I can free up to work on it.

Happy Christmas!
Hope you have a great Christmas.
I'm looking forward to finally completing some projects in the New Year, which will be a great start to 2015. See you on the other side!
